The supervisor mentions to the guard that the couple will probably be unable to leave life themselves. The next part of the story sees a family interviewed: the son gets a five year deferment the mother and father do not. This announcement causes panic amongst the populace until they learn that the highly respected Ak is one of the Board’s members.
